Paradigm Shift: Rethinking Human Performance (Version 2)
Back in 2022, I released Paradigm Shift: Rethinking Human Performance—a comprehensive look at everything I’d learned over a decade of studying and applying the science of human performance. The book covered applied bioenergetics and integrative physiology, my model for identifying an athlete’s physiological limiters and prescribing energy system training, how I program resistance training and troubleshoot plateaus, how I use performance and physiological data to individualize training, and how I think about training program design in the context of all of the above.
Since releasing that book, I’ve been relatively quiet publicly. Most of that time was spent building a wearable technology company (NNOXX) and working with organizations and teams—a big part of the value I provided was giving them exclusive access to my ongoing research. It wasn’t something I could share openly.
Since the start of 2026, I’ve returned to working with a select group of coaches and athletes, and with that I’m releasing an updated edition of Paradigm Shift that reflects everything I’ve learned since the original came out. If you read the original and found the information useful, the new edition will give you more precision in applying it. If you’re coming to it fresh, it’s designed to be a complete framework rather than a collection of concepts—something you can work through and come out the other side with a different way of looking at the athletes in front of you.
The book is available now1. As an exclusive offer, the first 25 people to purchase the book will get a free 20-minute consultation with me. We can use that time however is most useful to you—walking through how the framework applies to a specific athlete, talking through something in the book that didn't click, or just a conversation about where you're at in your coaching. I'll reach out directly once you've purchased to schedule it.
Additionally, if you enjoy Paradigm Shift, the most useful thing you can do is tell someone about it. Share the word with a coach you respect, post about it if something in it lands for you, or send it to an athlete who you think is ready for this way of thinking. And, if you run a podcast and think a conversation around the book would be useful for your audience, I’d love to join your how. Whether it's a deep dive on the physiology, a Q&A on applying the framework in practice, a discussion about wearable technology, or something more specific to your listeners, I'm open to it. Just reply to this email and we'll figure something out.
Note: After purchasing, you’ll be redirected to a webpage where the book is available to read online. Bookmark that page—it’s your permanent home for the content. From there, you can also download a local copy to keep, so you’ll always have it regardless of what happens to the link.
